Truly more important than Christmas
On Holy Saturday, Kathy and I were in the flower shop buying something for her sisters as an Easter present. The cashier was wearing bunny ears. I wondered (to myself) if a crown of thorns might be more appropriate. I suppose it would be, but it would also be somehow less festive.
Happy Resurrection Day!

Amazingly, I had to explain to my boss, who is Christian, that Easter is *not* a capitalist invention to sell chocolate bunnies.
I guess one small advantage of being the minority religion is that our holidays are less likely to be commercialized. Passover is still about reliving the exodus from Egypt. But Hanukkah has almost gone the way of Christmas -- turned into a mad rush for toys and gifts. Sad.
It is true that for the most part, the true meaning of the season is lost to ears and little cotton tails....I was raised recieving eggs at Easter, so am not used (yet - even after all these years) of the bunny thing at Easter.
Thankfully I live in a community where there are many Jewish people and my neighbours all celebrate the Passover.....in a way it keeps me grounded.
